EPIC-ICA
Evangelical Pastors in Covenant of Iowa City
Our Mission
The mission of the Iowa City Area Evangelical Pastors In Covenant (EPIC) group is to extend the kingdom of God through a fellowship of like-minded pastors. Therefore, Believing that God desires all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (I Tim. 2:4), and Believing that we are called to be active participants in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-30), and Believing that we can reach our community far more effectively together than separately, and that the church of Jesus Christ is ultimately one, (John 17:11) We covenant together to be a people of: Fervent Prayer – praying together in faith for the salvation of the lost in our community and for a greater effectiveness and health in our churches.
Loving Fellowship – meeting as pastors for encouragement, accountability and support, knowing that we must lead in modeling Christian unity, submission and koinonia to our churches. We are dedicated to presenting a unified pastoral presence throughout the Iowa City area and to casting vision in our separate congregations regarding the extension of the Kingdom of God in our community. We anticipate that our prayer and fellowship exchanges may well lead to cooperative events such as unified praise gatherings and joint evangelistic activities.
Statement Of Faith
- We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God (We endorse the Chicago Statement of Biblical Inerrancy).
- We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, that He is fully man and fully God, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
- We believe that all people are born in sin and in need of salvation.
- We believe that repentance, faith in the atoning death of Jesus Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are absolutely essential for the salvation of lost and sinful people. (We endorse The Gospel of Jesus Christ: An Evangelical Celebration.)
- We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
- We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
- We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
